Hoosick Celebrates Its Youth
HOOSICK – The Hoosick community came out in force in the rain to celebrate its
young “sung” and “unsung” heroes. 37 young people had been nominated from
many community organizations as exemplifying the image of going above and
beyond to help their community thrive. The Youth Impact Group coordinated the
event this year for the Hoosick Area Partnership for Parents and Youth. “Kids
honoring kids is what it is all about”, said Joyce Davis, Executive Direc-tor of
HAPPY. “We are so fortunate in this community to have kids working side by side
with adults to curb underage drinking, drug abuse and tobacco use. Clubs and
organizations, church youth groups and our school Youth Summit Team/SADD
Chapter and the Youth Impact Team are working on projects to educate youth,
their peers and younger children in an effort to keep them safe,” she explained.
“They have planned and implemented Town Hall Meetings to bring parents and
community members into the picture and have testified at the County and the
Town and Village on behalf of social host legislation.”
Unfortunately the ceremony was cut short because the impending rain storm hit
earlier than expected, but Bill Gaillard and the band played on immediately after
the ceremony. The Youth Impact Group is a community group of youth that meets
at the Youth and community center. They encourage youth to make the most of
their skills and energy and help their community recognize and tap into their
often over-looked talents. Area youth work together with a coalition of local
organizations, businesses and community members to make positive changes
in the community.
